What is KWOC ?

Kharagpur Winter of Code(KWoC) is a 5-week long online program for students who are new to open-source software development. This program aims to introduce students to open source and also helps them prepare for leading open-source programs like the Google Summer of Code(GSoC). This program is conducted by the Kharagpur Open Source Society(KOSS).

My Contributions

I significantly contributed to two projects, CyberSentinel and KWOC Frontend. Despite exam conflicts with the program timeline, the organizers graciously allowed me to complete both evaluations in a compressed two-day window.

In KWOC Frontend, I identified and fixed minor UI bugs, improving the website's overall user experience. Here is the link to the pull request as well as screen shot of the issue i raised

Prior to the event kickoff, I also made a significant contribution that was successfully merged. I proposed and implemented a UI improvement, enhancing the overall visual and functional aspects of the project. This pre-event contribution further underscores my commitment to the success of the projects I am involved in.

In Cyber Sentinel , i got approached by the mentor himself for improving the website a little bit to make pleasent to look at . It involved basic manipulation of css and html files in which i fixed and refactored the UI of 2-3 pages in the project

My learnings

The key takeaway from this experience was the importance of enjoying the process and finding fulfillment in contributing to organizations and repositories with positive motives. What stood out the most, however, were the meaningful connections I forged throughout this journey. Building relationships with like-minded individuals not only enriched my learning but also added a valuable human element to the entire experience.

This reinforced the idea that collaboration and community are integral aspects of personal and professional growth. Moving forward, I plan to continue embracing this perspective, recognizing that the journey itself can be just as rewarding as the destination, especially when shared with a supportive network of individuals who share common goals and values.
